I wasn’t able to keep up with the color photo challenge in December given the craziness that comes with the holidays.  And although I wasn’t able to pick up and shoot very much this month either, I couldn’t let another one pass without posting.  This month’s Color Collaborative challenge was to focus on capturing black, white and greys.  This was a tough one, because I generally tend to gravitate towards color in my images, but I am eager to push my boundaries this year, so I decided to focus on playing around with post processing and B&W conversions.  I only shot a couple of these images this month, but I truly enjoyed finally going back through my library of unedited photos from the last 6 months and playing around with editing them.  And as always, my favorite subjects once again take center stage 🙂

I knew brown would be a tough color to tackle.  A couple of years ago when I first participated in a color blog circle project, I distinctly recall dropping the ball on brown…so this time around, I started the month with a list of ‘brown’ ideas.  Teddy bears, coffee beans, even Amazon parcels….but somehow the end of the month drew near and none of these ideas materialized.  Thankfully, we took a family trip to San Antonio right before Thanksgiving and I was able to shoot some images in the beautiful historic downtown streets…and I even lucked out that our hotel room had an amazing headboard.  Yay!

It’s been awhile….a long while.  I stopped shooting because I was feeling burned out.  I wasn’t enjoying photography anymore, and I was starting to resent the work involved in shooting, editing and blogging. So I’ve been on a break, and that’s okay.

Today is a new day; a new chapter.  I’m excited to start learning, exploring and growing again as a photographer, and the best way I know how to do that is to jump into a photography challenge with amazingly talented friends to inspire me along the way.  I’ve joined a new Color Project group and I’m loving it!  This is my first installment of what I hope will be a 12 month journey.  I can’t wait to see where the road will take me.

This past month, I explored the color Orange…

This is the final installment of our blog circle’s year long project exploring colour in photography.  I have LOVED working through the different challenges and exploring how various colours impact my work.  Interestingly, when I first started my photography journey years ago, I was drawn to the classic look and feel of Black and White images.  But, since having kids, I am more and more attracted to colour when I shoot.  For me, colour helps tell the story of the fun, cheerful, adventurous, silly days of childhood.

This month, our final challenge was to work at incorporating multiple colours/hues together using Color Theory!  For me, this became a fun and freeing way to end the project….and I chose to let loose, not worry too much about the actual theories or technicalities, and showcase a kaleidoscope of colour!  I hope you enjoy my last few images from this project, and please follow along the blog circle for an amazing rainbow of eye candy, starting with the amazingly talented Jill Cassara.

Happy New Year!!!!  I know I’ve been MIA from blogging the past several months, but I’m excited to get back at it, and get caught up on editing and sharing my images….starting with my most favourite photography project, ‘The Color Collaborative’.

Our year long journey into exploring colour is nearing an end (only 2 months to go).  This month my collegues and I are focusing our efforts on the fabulous PURPLE!  This was a fun challenge for me, because it’s my daughter’s most favourite colour.  I loved capturing her in her element, doing things she loves, and surrounded by her favourite shade.

Please follow along the blog circle to see how my amazingly talented friends have captured this month’s purple challenge, starting with the lovely Dani Vest!

And while it’s trickier to capture purple images with my son (he doesn’t love the shade as much as his sister), I was able to find a shot of him from back when we were in Hawaii in the fall, where he is showcasing purple perfectly!

Okay…..I’m officially a super fan of the color ORANGE! Opposite on the color wheel from my favourite color blue, I absolutely love how these two colours pair together.  I also adore how this project is allowing me to creatively explore use of light and haze to capture the beauty of fall.  I hope you enjoy this series and that you follow along the blog circle to see how some of my talented friends and colleagues captured this month’s theme.  Next up in the circle is Nina Mingioni.

This month’s feature colour was WHITE, and boy was it a challenge for me!  I started the month with an extensive list of ‘white’ things I could potentially incorporate into my images, but ultimately I decided to try and find ways to showcase ‘white’ as the primary character in the shot…or at the very least a strong supporting element.  In the end, I didn’t end up with as many images as I wanted, but here’s what I have and it’ll have to do 🙂

I encourage you to follow along the blog circle and see how other’s took on this month’s challenge, starting with Nina Mingioni‘s amazing travels in Kazakhstan.

Where has the summer gone?  I honestly can’t believe it’s already that time again….kids go back to school next week!!!!  WHAT!?!

With that said, I’m excited to share some of my RED images from this past month, along with one of my personal favourite RED photographs from last fall’s mini sessions (who can resist a bright pair of red sneakers….not me!!!).

Please follow along our blog circle project starting with the very talented Nina Mingioni.

This month’s feature is my absolute favourite colour!

It’s the colour of bright sunny skies, beautifully cool and refreshing water, and my favourite pair of pants…really, what’s not to love about BLUE???  I love capturing blue in my images throughout the year, but this month was especially fun.  I feel the blue featured in these shots really helps convey a feeling of carefree summer fun.  I hope you enjoy my take on this fun hue, and that you follow along the blog circle starting with the amazing Sarah Davis, and see how she interpreted this month’s challenge.
